Self Critique of Revised Script

My script is getting better with each critique, but still needs work with the emotions and reactions of the characters. I need to work on dialogue between characters, asking the question "Would some would really say this?", or "Can this be said in a different tone and if so which one?" Daphne's lines still need work. She  complains too much and needs more arch to her breaking point. The third confrontation of the drunk girl needs to be thought out more of what type of drunk : angry, happy, sad, etc. How Daphne reacts to this girl, is she trying to steal Andrew away from her or befriend both of them.

Artist Lecture: Lilly McElroy

Lilly McElroy is a photographer and spoke tonight in Callicot Auditorium at Memphis College of Art. Her work tries to form connections between people or connections with places. McElroy's first work was titled "Hugs." This video showed her walking up to unknown people and trying to hug them, using the camera to capture their reactions. After the piece was finished she found that hugging someone can have two meanings. The first being an intimate connection with another person, and the other being a form of attack or confrontation. Her second work she showed was titled "The Square"  put the artist on a busy sidewalk and she tried to guard her space from people walking into her square area. Most of the people that interacted with her were playful instead of being disrespectful or rude. I believe her main piece was "I Throw Myself At Men" which are a series of photographs of the artist literally throwing herself at men in bars. She had fourteen good shots out of the experience and mentioned she usually wore a skirt to add vulnerability. She also presented "Pushing Cowboys", "Show Me That You Love Me", "Come Watch the Sunset with Me", and "2009 was a Rough Year."

Rev. of Adaption of Apollo and Daphne

Revision

In my revision of Apollo and Daphne, I've decided to call it Daphne and Andrew given that the main character in my adaptation is Daphne instead of Apollo,  gave Apollo the name Andrew, and gave Eros the name of Erin.

Daphne’s friend Erin is having a toga party. There’s food, drinks, and dancing. Open to Daphne leaning against a wall by herself at a party. Erin walks over and asks how Daphne is doing. Daphne’s sentence trails off. Andrew steps through the door. Daphne watches as he enters. Erin notices Daphne watching him. Erin asks if she'd like anything to drink. Erin leaves for a short time. Eros comes back not only with drinks but also with Andrew beside her. Daphne is surprised. As Erin leaves she nudges Daphne a little closer to Andrew.

Daphne and Andrew look at each other trying to find something to say to break the ice. Andrew excitedly asks. Andrew takes Daphne’s hand and leads her on to the dance floor. She is hesitant and doesn’t know how to dance. Andrew shows her how to move and nods to her when she tries. As Daphne’s confidence builds, a drunken girl comes closer to Andrew and starts dancing with him. Daphne and Andrew lock eyes and nods to her suggesting that they both should leave the dance floor. They stop dancing and head over to where they were standing before.

As they laugh the drunken girl comes back to them and leans on Andrew’s shoulder and laughs with them obnoxiously. Andrew notices Daphne getting frustrated and motions towards the refreshment table. Andrew and Daphne sneak away.

Andrew pours two cups and hands one to Daphne. They smile and about to talk when the drunken girl comes back over and interjects. Drunken girl grabs Andrew's drink and takes a sip. She leans onto Andrew and holds on to his shoulders. She nestles her head on his chest. Daphne looks at the girl with frustration, and then looks at Andrew. Andrew's arms are raised encouraging the girl stuck to him and shrugs, clueless to what to do. Daphne is fed up with this girl's attention to Andrew. Daphne grabs the girl's shoulder turning her around. The drunken girls drink splashes onto Daphne's toga. Daphne steps back quickly and the flower she wears falls to the floor and is crushed. The drunken girl looks at the spill and laughs. Daphne upset, looks at Andrew. Daphne leaves and heads towards the restroom. Apollo notices the crushed flower.

Daphne dabs a wet towel on her toga trying to get the drink stains off her. Daphne looks into the mirror frustrated, breathes deeply then leaves the room. Daphne looks around the party and doesn't see Andrew. She sees Erin and goes to her. Erin tells her that she saw Andrew leave with that drunken girl. Daphne looks down at the floor in frustration and sorrow. Erin notices Daphne's reaction to this news and tells her she is better off. Daphne hugs her friend and says goodnight.

Daphne starts walking home when she hears a voice calling to her and turns around to see Andrew.
Andrew explains that he helped the girl get to her friend's down the street and was returning to see her. Andrew reveals a flower to replace the other one Daphne had. Daphne smiles and intertwines her arm with his and they walk down the sidewalk.

Internships Assignments

My goal as an animator is to bring people closer together. I want to create characters and stories that people enjoy. I want them to remember the moments they laughed at, moments they cheered for the hero, and if their day was bad I hope that it would brighten their spirit. The following studios have inspired the path I would like to take with my career as an animator.

  • Lionhead Studios- is located in Guildford, Surrey, UK and is led by Peter Molyneux. They are a British game development company. Lionhead, over the years have been trying to bring people closer together. This attribute of their studio sticks out to me the most. Lionhead Studios character developments and stories interest me. They do their best immersing you into the world they have created giving you absolute control to the player over his/her character.
  • Pixar Studios- I chose because of there overall story developments and characters. How beautiful the movement and detail of the characters and environment. The time spent on developing each and every aspect of each film, show the effort everyone at the studio puts into it.
  • Bungie- is a gaming studio in Bellevue WA. I am interested in Bungie for the display of detail to characters and environments. When playing one of Bungie's games they take you into another world where you are the hero.

In this adaptation of Apollo and Daphne, the roles are switched and Daphne is the main characters who goes after Apollo. Eros is holding a toga party and Daphne is there. Eros comes over to Daphne asking her how she is doing. As they're talking Apollo comes in, Daphne asks Eros who he is and Eros tells her. Eros tells her, he will be right back. He comes back with Apollo saying "Look who I found at the punch bowl." Eros introduces them, and helps get the conversation started. For a while everything seems to be going well, but another girl comes over and rudely interrupts their conversation. Eros comes by to try to get the girl away from them. Technical Excercise

This weekend we were to practice and get more familiar with the camera equipment.
In the video I practiced focusing on objects and people, panning the camera, and keeping people within the frame.
