Self Critique of Project Sandwich

For the second project we were given a list of strategies to use for this project. I chose simultaneity and either collage or juxtaposition (I mixed the simultaneity shots together  and tied the story together so they would meet)

Synopsis:
A man wakes up realizing that he is late grabs his pistol and runs, meanwhile a man is in a cafe is making a sandwich. The first man is running and running while the other is slowly making his sandwich. The second man is about to take a bite of his sandwich when he sees the first man  come into the cafe. The second man says "hi" and the first man shoots him then sits down and takes a bite of the sandwich.

Intent:
I wanted this to be a comedy, to build up the anticipation and tension of this man running and the man making the sandwich.

Problems/Things I Want to Do Better:
My problem with this project was the place that I chase for the man making the sandwich. The original room had enough room and a great view to have in the background, but that room was ocuppied with a class so I had to pick the Sleaze n Slime Cafe. Which was hard to direct in with so many people and other non controlling variables. I also had trouble shooting in class cause time was of essence and had to change places for the first man. Though now that I look back it has really helped me to plan more and be ready for the unexpected situations.

Revision of Apollo and Daphne

Last class I presented my first draft of my adaptation of Apollo and Daphne. I needed to do some more revisions and needed to be clearer on my break down and ending.

One Sentence Summary: Daphne tries to gain the courage to speak to Apollo, with the help from her friend Eros.

Theme:
It's better to have tried and failed, than not have tried at all.
Central Point:
Daphne tries to put herself out there.
Central Goal:
Daphne has a conversation with Apollo.

Synopsis:
In this adaptation of Apollo and Daphne, the roles are switched and Daphne is the main characters who goes after Apollo. Eros is holding a toga party and Daphne is there. Eros comes over to Daphne asking her how she is doing. As they're talking Apollo comes in, Daphne asks Eros who he is and Eros tells her. Eros tells her, he will be right back. He comes back with Apollo saying "Look who I found at the punch bowl." Apollo hands her a drink but she is too shocked to grasp the cup when he puts it in her hand and it spills on the floor splashing up and onto Apollo's toga. He leaves to go wash it off Eros follows to show him where the restroom is. Later that night Eros comes back over to Daphne and asks how she's doing. She asks about Apollo. Eros tries to encourage her to talk to him before he leaves. They both look over at him and he is walking out. Daphne runs after him. She catches up to him and starts a conversation with him. She asks him out,but is cut short because he has to go but offers to continue it later over coffee/lunch.

Modern Adaptation of Apollo and Daphne Summary

In this adaptation of Apollo and Daphne, Apollo is a girl who falls in love at first sight with another girl at a toga party. In the beginning of the story Apollo approaches Eros a friend of hers. They talk about the topic of love, and Apollo makes a remark that Eros doesn't sit well with (Still working on lines). About this time Daphne walks in the room and Apollo can not keep her eyes off of her. Eros smiles and tells Apollo about her so he is even more interested in her but leaves out a very important detail. All night Apollo can not get his mind off her but doesn't know what to say to her. When Daphne begins to leave, Apollo chases through the crowd trying to reach her. By the time she makes her way to her, out the door and down the stairwell. Apollo finally catches up to her outside. Apollo tells Daphne how she feels, but Daphne tells Apollo she is straight and things wouldn't work out. Daphne leaves, and Apollo is left on the walkway. She looks down and finds pin of a tree that Daphne wore on her toga. She looks up and Daphne is out of sight. Though things didn't work out with Daphne, Apollo will always have this pin to remember this "first love" by.

My Interpretation of Apollo and Daphne

I believe Apollo and Daphne is about "first love". No matter, how much we may love the person we are with at the present, we still have a piece of that "first love" in our hearts. Not to say that we love the "first love" more or would rather be with than the present. The "first love" leaves an impression on our hearts whether it's showing us love is possible or gives us the knowledge to get back up after that first love is lost.

A Brief Outline of Adaptation

Boy/girl falls in love with someone (open to the idea of boy loves girl, girl loves boy, boy loves boy, or girl loves girl).

Act 2:

Shot List of Project 2

Concept and Strategy for In Class Project 2

For project 2, I am using simultaneity and compartmentalized. I wanted to show to events happening at the same time and bring them together at the end. If I am misusing the word compartmentalized for the strategy of pulling these events together please let me know.

Character A (Nick)is hungry and knows Character B(John) usually has makes a sandwich at twelve o'clock. Nick wakes up realizing John is making his lunch. Nick grabs his pistol and runs to the room that John is in to take it before John eats it all.
